When reviewing my past publications, I was surprised to find that I’ve never posted more than one film list in a calendar year before. That changes now. My love of cinema deserves as much attention as my love of music, so without further ado, here are my top ten movies of 2023 as we dive headfirst into awards season. How many do you recognize?

10. “Priscilla” — directed by Sofia Coppola
9. “Asteroid City” — directed by Wes Anderson
8. “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” — directed by Kelly Fremon Craig
7. “The Holdovers” — directed by Alexander Payne
6. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” — directed by Sam Wrench
5. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” — directed by Jeff Rowe & Kyler Spears
4. “Talk To Me” — directed by Danny & Michael Philippou
3. “Barbie” — directed by Greta Gerwig
2. “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” — directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, & Justin K. Thompson
1. “Oppenheimer” — directed by Christopher Nolan

The Oscars are in three short months from now, and I wonder what movies will be nominated, snubbed, or completely forgotten about. Regardless, I plan to see plenty of films, both in and out of theaters, until the big night. I’ll report back with my final thoughts in March. See you at the movies!
