Taylor Hawkins (1972–2022)

I’m checking in before a weekend full of fireworks to reflect on a music year that too has been full of fireworks. Overdue records by some of my favorites and surprises from talented friends that just recently checked in have peppered my 2022 listening register. I’ve been trying harder to notice the trendsetters, spending more time digesting as many offerings as my ears can keep up with, and most importantly, attending concerts and purchasing the old-school LPs and CDs. It’s been a normal year, yet my biggest enemy leers on: I just wish I had more time to listen to music. Nevertheless, my ten favorite records are listed below and I think you’ll recognize most of what you see. Look out below!

10. Cordae — “From A Birds Eye View”
9. Father John Misty — “Chloë And The Next 20th Century”
8. Arcade Fire — “WE”
7. Post Malone — “Twelve Carat Toothache”
6. Earl Sweatshirt — “SICK!”
5. FKA twigs — “CAPRISONGS”
4. Harry Styles — “Harry’s House”
3. Denzel Curry — “Melt My Eyez See Your Future”
2. Kendrick Lamar — “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”
1. The Weeknd — “Dawn FM”

All ten of these albums are by bands or artists I’m a personal fan of. I’ve seen six of them live (seven by the end of the summer) and I hope that if you haven’t checked out the above products yet, you do it soon. Take a few minutes and listen to a Foo Fighters song in memory of Taylor Hawkins (pictured at the top) while you’re at it too. In the meantime, keep on enjoying another stunning year of music in the making and I’ll see you at the end of September in the midst of fall!
