“I let you in!”

What better way would there be to celebrate the strangest holiday of the year than to share a list of my favorite spooky movies? Below are my ten favorite horror films of all-time, and while I personally don’t limit the definition of the genre to jump scares, dread, and frightening images and sounds, I wanted to stick to the classic idea of the “scary movie” when deciding my choices. Picking ten was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be, yet a handful of truly sinister selections just missed the cut. Have you been terrified by them all? Go ahead and look at them all (in alphabetical order) — if you dare:

“Alien” (1979) — directed by Ridley Scott
“Don’t Breathe” (2016) — directed by Fede Alvarez
“Eraserhead” (1977) — directed by David Lynch
“Get Out” (2017) — directed by Jordan Peele
“Hereditary” (2018) — directed by Ari Aster
“It Comes At Night” (2017) — directed by Trey Edward Shults
“Midsommar” (2019) — directed by Ari Aster
“mother!” (2017) — directed by Darren Aronofsky
“The Babadook” (2014) — directed by Jennifer Kent
“The Killing Of A Sacred Deer” (2017) — directed by Yorgos Lanthimos

Whether you’re trick-or-treating, passing out candy, dressing up for a party, or curling up and watching any kind of movie tonight, enjoy one of the few nights of the year that all ages can equally have fun in celebrating. I highly recommend seeing any of the above flicks after you monster mash this evening, although I’m confident your following nightmares will haunt you endlessly as a result. Don’t be afraid — Happy Halloween!
